    Filling in the schedule

    Posted in General, Shows & Receptions tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , at 11:24 pm by lynnemedsker

It seems like my calendar is starting to fill itself with art events in a very easy fashion lately.  It feels a little strange (in a nice way) to have everything “clicking” at once! In addition to the workshop dates that I have been announcing I am also slated to show my work in different venues during March, April, June, August even as far away as November!

The artwork I currently have at the Hoosier Salon will be there until March 10th.  Earlier in the month I mentioned being accepted into the show at the Union Street Gallery that will open in Chicago on March 13th and run into April.  I also will have artwork included in a group display at Urban Optiks in Broad Ripple (840 E 64th St) beginning March 13th and running into April.  I have one other show that I entered that runs during that same time period, I will find out by Monday if any of my work was accepted to it or not.  I’ll be gone for the first & middle part of April but after I return I will show some of my art during the “ArtsGo!” event here in Hendricks County on Saturday, April 25th.  Not only will I have a display of my work featured in a window on the square in downtown Danville I plan to have entries in the Central Indiana Artist Spring Show, in the Avon Town Hall, which runs at the same time.   Other than a workshop (or two) June looks pretty quiet until the end of the month when I will be participating in the “Brick Street Walk” in Zionsville, Indiana.  I will return to Zionsville to show my work at the “Corner Vise Gallery” in August.  There is a strong possibility I will have another local show of my work in the near future, we are just trying to find a time that works best for both the gallery & me.

I am excited about all this activity – what fun!  I will post more details (and some reminders) as these events get closer!

    Late night creativity

Posted in General, digital art, new work tagged , , , , , , at 2:16 am by lynnemedsker

Although I’ve been making an effort to get proper sleep lately, some nights I just get caught up in what I’m doing.  So here I sit at 2 a.m. posting to my blog!  I haven’t created anything fun with the computer lately so I indulged myself tonight and came up with this:

sunny day in the garden (c) 2009, Lynne Medsker

"sunny day in the garden" (c) 2009, Lynne Medsker

I can rarely stop with just one version of an image, which is part of the fun of creating art with a computer.  The possibilities are endless!  Along with the original version I tweaked it just a bit to make this image:

night time in the garden (c) 2009, Lynne Medsker

"night time in the garden" (c) 2009, Lynne Medsker

Now I can’t decide which I like best, maybe I’ll figure it out after I get some sleep. :)  Any opinions?

    Words into Art

    Posted in Fun stuff!, General tagged , , , , , , , at 3:33 pm by lynnemedsker

I am facinated by words & language and frequently like to include it in my artwork.  Today I was doing a little surfing and found this cool new website (well, new for me…you may have known about it a long time ago!)…it’s called Wordle.  According to their site:

“Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.”

You can change fonts, colors, layout, etc….it’s a fun little gadget to play with! I made this image by inputting my artist statement:

    Artist Statement Wordle

    "Artist Statement" Wordle

Anyhow, the next time you want to present your words or message in a new way or even if you just want to spend a few minutes “playing” give Wordle a try!

    Accepted!

    Posted in General, Shows & Receptions tagged , , , , , , , at 4:06 pm by lynnemedsker

I spent the day a few weeks ago sending out entry forms for two national art exhibits and basically kind of forgot about them after that (which is much better than obsessing over them!).  Anyhow, I checked my email this weekend and found from one gallery that two of the three pieces I submitted made it into the show.  Cool beans!  It’s always nice to see something in your inbox that says “Congratulations! Your art is accepted”.  :)

The show is called “Multiplicity” and it is at the Union Street Gallery in Chicago Heights, IL.  next month.  The opening reception & awards are Friday, March 13th from 6 to 9 p.m. and the show runs through April 10th.  I’m a little bummed I won’t be able to make it to the reception, that would be a great excuse for a road trip and to check out the gallery!  It looks pretty awesome online.  Maybe someone will be kind enough to post a first-hand report for me?

Now I am anxious to find out about the other entry and one from an earlier submission too, both are announced at the end of this month.  I’ll keep you posted!

    Enjoy your Valentine’s Day…

    Lynne
