Update & reminder!

Posted in General, Shows & Receptions, classes, instruction tagged , , , , , , , , , at 10:52 pm by lynnemedsker

Sorry I have gotten out of the blogging groove lately!  I feel like if I don’t have new images to share then it’s not a good post.  I guess I need to get past that and hope that a few words will suffice occasionally!  I am just wrapping up the process of moving/changing my studio space…I am SO anxious to get back to some creativity.  And it will be fun giving the new space a “test drive” to see if the layout works well or if I need to tweek it a bit to make it more user-friendly.  My first project will be finishing the piece that was started during my last visit to Noble.  I have all the “raw” material and art and just need to mesh it into a composition I am happy with.  The show is this coming Friday night so I plan to work on it tomorrow and get it mostly (if not entirely) finished.

This afternoon was the trip out to my studio space at Sugar Creek Art Center to make the final move of my artwork and furniture.  I had taken a few loads of things home over the last month so it was a quick and painless trip, but bittersweet.  Cleaning out the empty space and sweeping away the last remaining traces of my creative time there was a bit sad.  I will continue on as a volunteer there once a month as well as continue having my work available through the gift shop so I am not cutting all ties by any means, just shifting things around.  Life seems to always include a lot of shifting, doesn’t it?  All the artwork is still in the truck, I will need to have a serious sorting session determining which pieces will hang where this month, what ones I want to hang in my new studio space and which ones are going to be relegated to the storage unit.  I have several places I’ll be displaying work during June so this is the perfect time to be getting my art organized and ready!

The other project I hope to tackle tomorrow is to get my website updated!  It is becoming sorely out-of-date and I now have two and half months worth of catching up to do!  The longer I wait the bigger the job looms.  But it will feel so wonderful to have it current again!

Oh, and the reminder part of this post is that my workshop “Making Art with Photoshop Elements” is coming up next Saturday, June 6th from 10 – 4!  I still have space for two more participants…sign up now if you are interested!  More details are listed HERE.

I will make an effort to post again soon, new images, old images or no images!

Take care,

Lynne

New collaborative art project

Posted in Fun stuff!, General, Shows & Receptions, art studio tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 4:19 pm by lynnemedsker

Hello!  I apologize by the sporadic blog posts recently!  The process of setting up my studio space here at home has been consuming my energy, thoughts and time recently.  My goal is to have it completely finished by the first of June…if things go according to plan it may even be sooner!  I am anxious for it to be done and to get settled in and start some new projects.

Speaking of creative projects, this week I will be visiting the Noble Center in Indianapolis again to work on an art project with the artists there.  Normally I spend the morning doing a project with the participants and that’s the end of it until next visit.  This visit is different because they are preparing for a collaborative art show in June so several of the local artists (including me!) are spending time creating art there during the month of May.  The theme is loosely based on the Beatle’s and artists from the 60’s era.  The piece we will be creating together will feature Mick Jagger/The Rolling Stones.  What fun!  I’ve had one of their songs stuck in my head this past week as I’ve been repainting some wooden furniture to use in the studio.  I’ve seen enough of black paint for a while but caught myself humming “Paint it Black” on more than one occasion.  Perhaps that was just warming me up for this project?

The reception for this event is Friday, June 5 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Wheeler Art Center in Fountain Square (1035 Sanders Street, Indianapolis) and is, of course, open to the public.

I will post an update after our play date on Tuesday to show you how the piece is developing!  I hope to get all the basic pieces prepared during my visit and then assemble it at home.  I have a vision of what we’re doing but also enjoy “going with the flow” as we create so we’ll see what happens during the process.  The only thing I am certain of is that it will be fun!

Until next time…

Lynne

Update on 2009 Workshops

Posted in art studio, classes, instruction, workshop tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 5:30 pm by lynnemedsker

I have revised my upcoming workshop schedule for 2009!  As I mentioned in my previous post I will no longer have a studio at Sugar Creek Art Center but I am creating a studio space at home.  Even though I will miss the energy of the art center I am excited by this change.  Along with moving all my supplies home I will be moving most of my workshop locations here as well.  I am also reducing the number of participants for most classes (minimum and maximum) to allow for more one-on-one instruction and personal attention.  I do hope you will consider joining me for one of these workshops!  Here are links to the revised posts with the current information listed:

Creating Art with Photoshop Elements

One-Day Photography Workshop

Handcoloring Black & White Photographs Workshop

Alternate Printmaking Techniques Workshop

Mixed Media Workshop

I have had people voice interest in classes or workshop on different days and times so I need feedback!  The ones on the schedule thus far are all on Saturday.  Are there people interested in weekday classes or evening classes?  If so, what days or evenings are best?  I want to plans several more classes and would like to schedule them at a time that fits best into most peoples schedule.  Leave me a comment, send me an email…just let me know!  Thanks in advance for your help!

Join me Friday night!

Posted in General, Shows & Receptions, art studio tagged , , , , , , , , , at 3:06 pm by lynnemedsker

This Friday, May 8th,  (like all 2nd Friday’s) “Culture at the Creek” will be held at the Sugar Creek Art Center.  This month features work in the main gallery by artist Pat Cotton.  The exhibition is titled “Hoosier roots with a World View” and hours Friday night are from 6 to 9 p.m.  In addition to Pat’s artwork you can visit  the classroom area (often with demonstrations being held), the gift shop or any of the working artist studios in this renovated, historic building – including mine!

I am currently designing a studio space in my home so this will be a bittersweet event for me as it will be my last month to participate as a resident artist.  Although I am excited by this change I am also sad to be leaving Sugar Creek.  With that being said, I want to encourage each of you to come out this Friday night.  For those of you who always thought you’d get around to seeing Sugar Creek “someday” – make it this Friday!  For those of you who haven’t been to the center in a while, come back and see it again.  There is constant change as the artists create new works of art and the renovations progress throughout the building, I promise you will see something new.  And for those of you who would like to do a little bargain shopping I am discounting prices on all the artwork in my studio Friday night!  I would love to have these pieces adopted, loved and living in a good home instead of being relegated to a storage space only to come out for shows or special events.

Sugar Creek Art Center is located in Thorntown, Indiana – a bit north & west of Indianapolis.   It sits one block south of  State Road 47 at 127 South Pearl Street. The phone # is 765-436-7102. My studio is #215 – on the second floor.  Please come by a say hello when you visit!

See you Friday,

Lynne

Ideas & Daydreams

I was still sorting through files when I stumbled across this piece.  It is one of my first digital collages from back in 2003.  It took me hours & hours to assemble it from photos and clip art using a very primitve photo editing program.  I was so excited when it was finished I am sure I e-mailed it to every person in my address book!  I still love the concept & title and I am pretty sure that if you could get a snapshot of the thoughts & ideas floating through my head it would be something similar to this.   :)   I will brag a bit and tell you that when I entered this image in the state fair that summer I won the blue ribbon for computer art!  Which shows how much computer art has progressed in the last six years…this seems so very basic anymore.

The current ideas & daydreams dancing in my head revolve around getting my new art studio space set up. I’ve been taking some photos of the progress, I will post them when the project is complete.  I spent all day Friday sorting, packing and emptying the room followed by a weekend of painting.  And more painting!  My goodness it takes a long time when you are working around ten windows and a pair of french doors.  I sure love the room full of sunlight but flat walls without windows are certainly faster to paint!  In addition to those obstacles the room had hunter green trim (does that date it for you?) that had to have two coats of primer before we could even begin to paint.  BUT, it is a beautiful, clean, bright white now!  It will be over a week before the new carpet can be put in so we’ve got a bit of a lull in activity.  I am in the midst of drawing up plans for the built in storage that I want to add (after the carpeting) and my head is spinning with room arrangements, furnishings and details.  I want to keep it fairly open yet also want to put all my art supplies in there, have a space for doing both mixed media and digital work plus be able to use at least part of it for social gathering.  It will be a balancing act!  Now I am off to look at some furniture online…

Happy daydreams to you!

Lynne
