Scenic Road Trip: Crater Lake, Oregon (Part 1)

Our second stop during our tour of Oregon this fall was Crater Lake. What a gorgeous place! So beautiful, in fact, that I am making two posts out of it because I have so many wonderful photos from there!

I was there in early July 2007 (I think). It’s gorgeous! Nobody had taken the boat tour in a while so the water was perfectly still. It looked as if somebody had put a sheet of blue glass in the caldera. I was amazed to see snow that time of year.

We went to Crater Lake once on the way into Oregon… and DIDN’T SEE A THING!

It was August, and the lake was covered with fog and the whole valley was actually socked in and we barely made it out. And the lodge where we ate was about to close before snow season (yes, in August) and so they had Christmas music playing and Santa (yes, in August).

I suppose we should go back someday and actually see the beautiful lake!

    • It has beauty everywhere it seems! We flew in & out of Portland but I’d like to spend a few days there exploring the city too.

  110. I really like how you captured a place on Earth I have never seen. Now I HAVE to go there. Thank you. And your style in composition is tremendous.

I hope to make it here someday! There are so many spots I want to see in oregon, I could take a month long vacation there and still not see everything!
