Our second stop during our tour of Oregon this fall was Crater Lake. What a gorgeous place! So beautiful, in fact, that I am making two posts out of it because I have so many wonderful photos from there!
Look for another “road trip” post soon, with more images from the Crater Lake area – including “The Pinnacles” and some beautiful waterfalls!
Lynne
Beautiful photography! Never been to Crater Lake but it is definitely on my short list. Just spectacular. Thanks for sharing.
Thank YOU for looking! It was amazing, much more so that I was expecting!
L.
I love Crater Lake too. I really like the simplicity of the last picture.
Thank you! That image is my husband’s favorite too!
L.
What a gorgeous place! Your photos make me want to visit!
I would certainly recommend it if you get a chance, it’s amazing!
L.
Beautiful picture! Crater Lake is one of my favorite places here in Oregon. I consider myself very lucky to live so close. You really captured it wonderfully.

I consider you lucky too!! We were enthralled with each place we visited in Oregon. I hope to return and explore further! Thanks!
L.
I haven’t been to Crater Lake in many years — but it certainly hasn’t changed: spooky, quirky, spectacular, awe-inspiring…
I love this place — and your photos are stunning!
Mikalee
Thank you Mikalee! I love you description of Crater Lake, couldn’t have said it better myself. 🙂
L.
So beautiful! We were there in July and could not believe that it was still PACKED with snow. Snowball fights in July were pretty amazing 🙂
I’d be curious to know how old some of that snow is! I’m positive that it doesn’t all melt away before it starts flying again. 🙂 It was fun to play in it with your summer gear on!
L.
Nice shots.
Thank you! It was a wonderful place to have a camera!
L.
Been there many times. I never tire of it.
I can see why! I’d love to return and spend an extended amount of time there!
L.
Very nice!! Crater Lake is spectacular and you captured it well in your photos. Visited it years ago when we lived in the Pacific Northwest. For exquisite scenery, Oregon is positively beautiful.
Thank you! I had so much fun there taking photos and enjoying the scenery.
L.
Breathtaking photos! 🙂
Thanks Eileen!
Please come to Morristown, NJ and make it look so beautiful!
Ronnie
I’ve never been to New Jersey! Sounds like fun. 🙂 I bet it has it’s own brand of beauty!
L.
Wonderful pictures!
Thank you so much!
L.
I’ve always wanted to go to Crater Lake and your photos re-affirmed that I definitely need to make that happen 🙂
You should! It was lovely!
L.
These photos are breathtaking. What an amazing view, I love, love, love your post!
Thank you SO much! I have love, love, loved having so me people visit my blog!
L.
Great post! Thank you for sharing!
And welcome to my state! We hope you come back!!
I will definitely subscribe to your blog. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you! Oregon was simply awesome…can’t wait until I can return and explore some more.
L.
I’m a born and raised Oregonian, now living in the Midwest. Glad to see my beautiful, and often overlooked state, represented by your skillful photography skills! and in the freshly pressed, no less! Marvelous.
I feel honored to have them featured! Oregon was a perfect place to visit…I just wish I’d have had more than 10 days!
L.
Amazing photos, I can’t wait to stop through Oregon for a visit one of these days!
I would highly recommend it! I love to travel so I’m excited to go anywhere but this was really an awesome trip!
L.
Beautiful photography! Next time i go down to the states i will arrange for a visit to Oregon. It looks beautiful. Hows the cellphone reception at the lake?
The cell phone service varied during our trip…the higher up you were, the better. With this lake being at the top of a crater I didn’t have any issues getting reception. By all means, you should go visit Oregon. This is just one of the many beautiful areas we were lucky enough to explore!
L.
Hows the weather down there? Great view!
I was there the end of August and the weather was perfect! Thanks for reading!
L.
Such beautiful photos. We camped there a few years back. The water is such a stunning blue. I love the last photo. Brings back that feeling of awe I had when I was there . Thank you!
We camped while we were there too! It was an awe-inspiring place.
L.
No chance of ever getting there so I’m really glad you wanted to share!
Never say never…life is full of surprises! Hope you make it some day. 🙂 In the meantime I’m glad you enjoyed the photos!
L.
OOh my thats such a beautiful place.. and great pictures..:-)
Thank you! It was amazingly beautiful!
L.
I love your photos of Crater Lake. They’re absolutely beautiful, and the last one is my favorite. I’ve only been there once, but your pictures make me want to go back!
Thank you so much! I hope to return sometime too!
L.
OMG! You have great eyes. They all make sense, beautiful!
Thank you! I enjoyed composing and taking them. 🙂
L.
Love the pictures! I’m in Washington, yet I’ve never seen Crater Lake. I need to fix that fast!
Yes, you sure do! I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures too. 🙂
L.
Some wonderful images.
Thanks David!
L.
WOWWWW!!!
🙂 Thanks!!
L.
Oh, I love the pic in the middle with the different shades of blue skies! Beautiful! I love Oregon! Thanks for sharing! =)
Thank you! There wasn’t a real sunset but that image made up for it! Oregon is awesome.
L.
Lovely photos, and a good variety as well.
Thank you! It took me a while to decide which ones to include and which to leave out, I’m glad you liked the variety.
L.
Thank you for sharing the pictures from your adventures. I’ve never been there myself and hope I’ll have a chance to sometime soon. =)
I hope you get that chance too! Traveling to different areas is so much fun. 🙂
L.
I hope these lovely images serve to keep our world a beautiful place.
That is a wonderful goal for any image…our world has so much beauty in it!
L.
Gorgeous, wish I was there with my camera. Don’t get me wrong I live in the enchanting Pacific NW, but I’ve never been to Crater Lake. One of these days.
Grab that camera and go! 🙂
L.
Beautiful pictures. Now I just have to add this to my ‘places to visit’ list 🙂 Thanks for sharing your gorgeous pictures and congrats on being freshly pressed!
Thank you! I’m honored to be “freshly pressed” and happy you enjoyed the pictures. Be sure to add it to your list, you’ll enjoy the visit!
L.
Stunning photographs. I too love taking photos everywhere I go. You have a good eye and you can actually see this reflected in your photos. Like the one looking down upon the boat. It is nice to know someone else notices the same things. Great blogging. Thank you so much for sharing your photos. Angelique
Thank you Angelique! It’s always nice to hear from a fellow photographer that enjoys your work.
L.
Amazing. Some of them could easily be used as postcards.
Thanks for sharing, certainly added the place to my “to-visit” list.
I would highly recommend adding it to your list! Thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂
L.
That first picture was just WOW!
Thanks Ariel!! Having so many people read and view my blog has been WOW too!
🙂
L.
Have been there a few times, living fairly close. It’s so beautiful. The lake looks like glass with the only movement an occasional breeze that floats across the water, creating a tiny ripple effect.
Love it there! Great post and wonderful photos.
Lucky you to live close! I have one photo where the water is so still and the clouds reflecting in it make it look like it IS the sky instead of the water. Thanks for reading and enjoying this post!
L.
I was there in early July 2007 (I think). It’s gorgeous! Nobody had taken the boat tour in a while so the water was perfectly still. It looked as if somebody had put a sheet of blue glass in the caldera. I was amazed to see snow that time of year.
I had heard about the snow but it’s still a surprise to actually see it piled around. 🙂 Especially in contrast to the rest of the surroundings!
L.
Never been to Oregon and now you have made me put this gorgeous lake on my “Buckett list”. Thank You for sharing!
What a great addition to your list! My husband has always wanted to see the giant redwoods, we visited there during our trip as well. Some of those images will be going on the blog next week. 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
Like Mt. Bromo in Indonesia, tremendous eruption explosion was happened but there is no lake was created.
Great Photos. 🙂
Glad you liked the photos! Yes, the lake was created by an explosion – what an amazing thing!
L.
The clouds in the sky look so majestic,
Great shots 🙂
I was blessed with beautiful weather & skies this day, I could not have asked for better!
L.
Nice photos I stopped there last year on my road trip up the west coast.. Awesome beauty.
Rock On
Tim
Tim,
Glad you enjoyed the photos and had a chance to enjoy the beauty for yourself. We spent several days along the coast, that is awesome scenery as well!
L.
Beautiful shots of a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing them with us.
You are very welcome! Thanks for viewing them!
What a road trip! Never been to Crater Lake but these pics are awesome!
It was a great road trip, this was just one of the awesome places we got to visit! I’m glad you enjoyed them!
These ARE wonderful photos! Nice! Very crisp. Cheers

Beautiful photography! Never been to Crater Lake but it is definitely on my short list. Just spectacular. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for viewing my photos and for your kind words!
L.
Beautiful pictures! I live in Washington state, but rarely get down to crater lake(Only once every few years), so it’s nice to see it again through your photographs.
I always enjoy photos of places I’ve been to, adds something to the enjoyment!
L.
GREAT photos! I must get back there one day. I have only been there once and the weather was terrible. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
My friend visited there and swore to me it was a hoax and there was no lake, it was so foggy they weren’t able to see a thing. Knowing that made me feel twice as lucky for the beautiful weather we enjoyed!
excellent .!!! Keep sharing your clicks!!! I added my name in your follower list. 🙂
I took (literally) thousands of photos during our trip so I’ll be sharing lots of them over the next few weeks! Thanks for joining the follower list!
L.
What a beautiful place. I would love to go there
It was breath-taking! Go if you get a chance!
L.
Beautiful scenery!
http://embraceyoumag.com
Thank you Kai!
L.
You captured the essence of the place for sure. We were there five years ago, and it lingers in my memory to this day, your photo’s only added to the memory. A beautiful place, a must see on everyone’s west coast bucket list.
Thanks,
DS
Thank YOU, DS, for visiting and for your kind words!
L.
My mouth is hanging opened. Wow. What magnificence you’ve captured. Gorgeous. Now I have to go there. Seriously.
http://valentinedefrancis.blogspot.com
I’m so glad you enjoyed them! You SHOULD go there. Seriously! 🙂
L.
Wonderful photos!! . . . Makes me want to put Crater Lake on my list of places to visit!
http://arabianmusings.wordpress.com/
Thanks! I’m glad I inspired you to visit someday!
L.
Beautiful. Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!
We went to Crater Lake once on the way into Oregon… and DIDN’T SEE A THING!
It was August, and the lake was covered with fog and the whole valley was actually socked in and we barely made it out. And the lodge where we ate was about to close before snow season (yes, in August) and so they had Christmas music playing and Santa (yes, in August).
I suppose we should go back someday and actually see the beautiful lake!
Thanks Bill! I’m excited to have my photos featured. My brother-in-law had the same kind of trip to Crater Lake (sans the Christmas music since it was July), he swore there wasn’t even a lake there, it was just a hoax. 🙂 I think both of you should try again!
L.
We hope to. I have family in Oregon, so someday we need to pass that way on our way to see them.
LOVE your fabulous pictures of nature!!! I can almost hear the silence of the surrounding and sense the ecstacy when you capture the images. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to enjoy more!
Thanks for the beautiful comments Helen! Look for more photos soon.
L.
Great photos– I will put it on my “places-to-go-list.”
Excellent choice for your list! Thanks!
L.
My family and I took a road trip through Oregon a few summers ago. Crater Lake was definitely amazing. We ventured a bit into Washington as well, and of all the things we saw it was Mount St. Helen’s that was our favorite. If you ever get a chance, it is definitely worth the drive. Your photos are beautiful, looks like you were there on the perfect day.
It was a perfect day to be there! We spent most of our time in Oregon and a few days in northern California. When we were in the Columbia River Gorge we kept looking at Washington and wishing we had time to explore. It’s on our list next time we go that direction!
I would love to go there.
With it being the deepest lake in the US I would think it would be an interesting place to scuba dive!
Lynne – Great pics of Crater Lake. My wife and I recently completed a cross country camping trip (9000 miles and 2000 pictures). Crater Lake is now one of our favorite places. I guess it’s not surprising that we have pictures of some of the same views (although you’re are much better quality).
I am blogging about our trip at http://honeyhaveeyouseenmykeys.wordpress.com.
Jack
Wow Jack! I’m impressed! We only camped for 10 days. 🙂 Although I snapped about 2000 pictures in that amount of time…I’ve got an itchy trigger finger when my camera is about. Loved your photos of the black hills area…I went there last fall and thought it was awesome! Good luck on your adventure, thanks for reading about mine!
L.
Looks so serene!!! Beautiful!
It really was both serene and beautiful. Thank you!
L.
The scenery is so amazing. Love the photos.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed them!
L.
amazing pics.. esp the first one and congrats for being on the freshly pressed 😉 wonderful places too 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed the photos! Thanks!
L.
Beautiful photos. I like the black and white ones. I think I have one of the same dead tree in your second one:-) Did you do the boat trip? My daughter did and got some amazing photos of above and below. I didn’t because I couldn’t do the steep trail down and back, I think I remember it was equivalent to 60 flights of steps. Congrats on being freshly pressed.
I’m a sucker for trees, especially old gnarly ones! We didn’t have time for the boat trip (and after the hiking we did up to the waterfalls I’m not sure about energy either!). Thanks for the congratulations, it’s been amazing to have so many people see & talk with me about this!
L.
Splendid photographs, it really is such moving, extraordinary scenery. What a world we live in! Are you doing tours for other people or is this your own personal journey? I live in Big Sur, pretty spectacular coast line here, and am about to launch Expressionist Painters Holidays in this area.
Thank you for your kind words about my photos! We truly do live in a beautiful world, especially when we take time to notice! This was just part of a 10 day camping trip we took in August/September. I would love to visit Big Sur sometime! Best wishes with your launch!!
L.
I used to live in Oregon. It is really a lovely state. Nice photos. Thanks for sharing. Connie
http://7thandvine.wordpress.com/
Hi Connie! Thanks for your comments. We were amazed at all the beauty of your state!
L.
Amazing images.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and these pictures are showing exactly that. I am speechless on the beauty of the scenery. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for your comments! I’m so happy you enjoyed viewing them. 🙂
Completely beautiful. This one of the reasons I want to move out west.
It would be a fantastic place to live, I understand why you want to! If I had no family & ties I’d be there now!
L.
I’m moving to Portland in a week, I can’t wait to visit here! Great photos
Not for tourists:
http://www.cityarbiter.wordpress.com
Portland was a great town! I wish we had more time to explore everything there. Enjoy your new hometown!
L.
Lovely snaps 🙂 Truly scenic 🙂
Thanks!
L.
your photographs are wonderfull, and they made me feel very happy just looking at them.
I’m happy to hear that! Thanks!
L.
Beautiful pictures. We were there toward the end of July and they were just about to start the boat tours for the season. There were mounds of snow everywhere and one half of the crater road was still partially closed.
I’m amazed at how short of a season they have there! I’ve seen pictures from there with the snow piles high in June & july, pretty amazing!
L.
Beautiful! We were just there last week. I spent a lot of time getting pictures of Wizard Island from different angles, but I did capture a few other shots of the lake. It was a beautiful day for us as well, although not as many fluffy white clouds. Such a beautiful place.
Sounds like you had a wonderful visit too. I recognized several of the images you took! It’s such a beautiful place. 🙂
L.
Amazing Pictures. Breathtaking landscape. Love it!
Thank you!
L.
These are great shots! I lived in Bend for two years before heading off to college and I absolutely loved it–we frequently took trips to Crater Lake as a family, it is always so gorgeous! I suggest going in winter as well, the snow around the edge is stunning.
I bet it would be amazing in the winter!
L.
Amazing Photography 🙂
Thanks so much!
L.
Wow, beautiful photography. I can’t wait to visit now, thank you for sharing.
Thank you Debbie!
L.
Beautiful photos. I love the reflection of the sky in the water.
Thank you! The clouds were perfect that day. 🙂
L.
That’s beautiful!!!! I’m a sucker for scenic nature!
Me too!

Loved the gnarly B&W tree, Crater Lake looks spectacular.
well done you should write about the trip as well.
Kudos to you.
Today being Halloween I took some photographs of some classic people at the Melbourne Zombie Shuffle Australia.
it was off the hook check it out.
.
Thanks for your comments! Wow, that’s a LOT of zombies you had going on there! Fun pics!
L.
Absolutely Beautiful! This is my favorite kind of photography, the real wild that sits just beyond our doorstep. Me and my boyfriend spend a lot of time wheeling around western Canada exploring nature and coming home with hundreds of fantastic memories and photos. We recently took an expedition trip down to Death Valley and drove our way home up the coast and I was amazed at the beauty! Absolutely spectacular.
Great photos!!
Thank you! Your trips sounds absolutely awesome!!
L.
Amazing place, amazing photographs taken! I have been there two years ago on my way back from North California (Lassen Volcanic Park – http://www.flickr.com/photos/tatius/sets/72157622213696013/), and were very surprise and amazed by the Crater Lake http://www.flickr.com/photos/tatius/sets/72157622237197401/!
Thanks for sharing your photo!
Wow, you have some awesome images too! What time of year were you at Crater Lake? The weather was beautiful! I am so sad to know I missed Lassen Volcanic Park, we were right by Mt. Shasta, I had no idea it was there. Guess that’s just another reason to visit again someday!
L.
Splendid Photography!
You could add a little bit of narration to make the blog a little more interesting to scroll thru 🙂
Wont you like to come back to this blog yourself after 5 years and read what you felt like on that day?
Thanks! Yes, I should probably do that…I was in a hurry to get them posted and didn’t spend as much time on them as I normally would. Ah well, there’s always that “edit” button!
L.
Gorgeous, gorgeous pictures! I love how you were able to capture the reflection of the sky on the water. Everything was so clear! The water and the sky were just breathtaking! Great job!
If it is okay with you, I would like to mention my own blog that I just started and share the link with your readers. It’s called Logic Meets Reason and it would be great if you and your readers could comment, subscribe, and take a look at the pieces I have posted! Here is the link: http://www.logicmeetsreason.wordpress.com.
I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, it was truly a beautiful day! Good luck with your blog!

Posts like this make me want to leave NYC and never look back!
I feel that way about Indiana too! 🙂 But I’m sure I’d miss it, I’ve got midwest in my veins.

beautiful photos.. and the last one is my favorite..
The last one sure captures the clarity and depth of the lake!
L.
Wow! I’m totally adding this to my Western US bucket list! When did you go? I’m thinking about going in March, but it might be too cold.
Oh, I am sure it would be cold in March, but it would probably still be beautiful (if you could get to it through all the snow!). We went in late August and there was still some snow on the ground in spots. My friend was there in June and there were snow piles taller than her!
L.
Those are some very nice images
Thank you! L.
Amazing place, would love to visit sometime!
You should, even photos don’t do it justice!
L.
lovely photos!
I appreciate it!
L.
beautiful photos! i’ve always heard oregon was beautiful, but have only gotten the chance to visit portland.
It has beauty everywhere it seems! We flew in & out of Portland but I’d like to spend a few days there exploring the city too.

I really like how you captured a place on Earth I have never seen. Now I HAVE to go there. Thank you. And your style in composition is tremendous.
Stunning
Thanks~
I hope to make it here someday! There are so many spots I want to see in oregon, I could take a month long vacation there and still not see everything!
I think you are right about that…it’s amazing out there!
L.
Your photos are amazing!!!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed them!
