A peek into a fun project!

I’m not quite sure how I forgot to share this news on the blog but just realized I hadn’t said a word about it here! Well, here it is. I’m working on a coloring book that will be part of Dover Publications “Creative Haven” series!!

10801632_10152506568642233_6102271326475949729_n

I’ve been busy creating around 30 images to be included in the book. Here are a few progress images from the last couple of weeks:

I am hoping to have them all submitted in the next week or so, the book should be published this fall sometime. I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s coming out! One of the gallery spaces I work with is talking about hosting a show of the original works as well as a book signing. Fun stuff! In the meantime I’m busy each day dreaming and drawing new images. My compass has been getting a good workout and my markers even more so!10922457_10152572102297233_2582858822183004008_n

Rocks on my brain

It seems like the prep and creativity for the new show in November centered around rocks! I’ve had a blast exploring on the different ways they can be painted, colored and incorporated into artwork. Here are a few images of my explorations, I’ve left a pencil in the photo of several to give you a gauge of the sizes.

How I’m incorporating these into my artwork? Aaaah, well, you’ll just have to wait and see. 🙂  In the meantime I can tell you that, after some requests, I’ll be scheduling a couple of workshop in the next month or two so YOU can create your own art on stones. Look for those to be posted soon!

Mandala Tree

A recently finished piece!

This was a fun project that I started for one reason and finished just because I loved making it. 🙂 Originally thinking I’d enter it into a competition, I didn’t get it finished before the deadline but that didn’t stop me from completing it. The drawing/coloring of all the mandala “leaves” was much more time consuming than what I thought!  email 10357770_10152180144962233_4458660241400057369_o

After getting them drawn it was on to adding the background paint and then it needed to dry for a while, it had gotten quite saturated!email 20140708_231350

Once it was dry, the first details I tackled were in the tree trucks.email 10423728_10152216335267233_6552598702240167785_n

Then on to the leaves. That was the slowest part of the process. email 20140811_202220-1

I used a semi-limited pallet so that the piece would have some continuity, which added to the challenge. email 10570467_10152241064412233_6741666186836582498_n

The finished piece is still in the studio as I decide how to frame & display it! I’m also thinking it needs a better title than “Mandala Tree” – what do you think??

Weekend Mandala Sale!

Wow, I can’t believe I’ve missed a month of blogging. I’d apologize but you’ve heard it before! This is just something I’m going to struggle with I’m afraid.

SO…anyhow. I thought I’d give you a heads up about a little weekend sale I’m having on my Facebook Page. My inventory of small mandala art is down to the last nine pieces and I’m ready to clear them out to make room for some newness. This weekend I’ll be having them all at 20% off, plus FREE shipping. How do you get in on this great deal you ask? Well I will tell you just how easy it is. Follow this LINK, find the post with the mandala art images, type “SOLD” under the one you’d like then leave me your email address (either with the “SOLD” or in a private message) and I’ll contact you for payment/shipping info. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy! 🙂

Ceaseless

I’m back! Keeping the blog going on a regular basis seems to be my Achille’s heel this year! Thanks for sticking with me during the hits & misses.

So, back to finishing up the recycled/upcycled art pieces from last year. This piece, Ceaseless,  is mounted on an old LP.

Blog, 2013-04-25 11.38.30

Just like “Conjured” it was drawn on watercolor paper, painted on the reverse side and then the design was cut out with an x-acto knife.

After that it was mounted on the LP and details were added with ink and an old piece of jewelry was mounted in the center.

Ta-da!!

Coming up next is the last piece from my show of upcycled/recycled artwork and it’s a bit different from all the others. Stay tuned, it WILL be posted yet this week. 🙂

Conjured

So, yes, you guessed it. More art on old LP’s today. 🙂 This piece started just like the others:Blog, 2013-04-25 11.42.25

From that point it pretty much followed in the footsteps of “Circadian” with a mandala pattern on watercolor paper, painted, carefully cut and attached to the LP.

This piece is very bright, fun and lively!

Next post will be one of the last pieces of the art on LP’s and a combination of a couple different previous ones I’ve shared. Be on the lookout!
