Altered Book/Art Journal

As part of my “Creative Every Day” challenge for this year I’ve been working in an old book that was cut down and had a hole punched through the edge so it can be clasp shut with a chain.

Here are a few of the first projects I’ve done in it:

I have done a few other things since then but I’ll save them for another post. Have any of you been following the “Creative Every Day” challenge? What have you worked on?

A peek into a fun project!

I’m not quite sure how I forgot to share this news on the blog but just realized I hadn’t said a word about it here! Well, here it is. I’m working on a coloring book that will be part of Dover Publications “Creative Haven” series!!

I’ve been busy creating around 30 images to be included in the book. Here are a few progress images from the last couple of weeks:

I am hoping to have them all submitted in the next week or so, the book should be published this fall sometime. I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s coming out! One of the gallery spaces I work with is talking about hosting a show of the original works as well as a book signing. Fun stuff! In the meantime I’m busy each day dreaming and drawing new images. My compass has been getting a good workout and my markers even more so!10922457_10152572102297233_2582858822183004008_n

Words into Art

I am facinated by words & language and frequently like to include it in my artwork.  Today I was doing a little surfing and found this cool new website (well, new for me…you may have known about it a long time ago!)…it’s called Wordle.  According to their site:

“Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.”

You can change fonts, colors, layout, etc….it’s a fun little gadget to play with! I made this image by inputting my artist statement:

Anyhow, the next time you want to present your words or message in a new way or even if you just want to spend a few minutes “playing” give Wordle a try!
