New Work! November at ArtSplash Gallery

I’m excited to be sharing the main gallery space at ArtSplash Gallery in Carmel, Indiana, during the month of November with the talented Lynn Andalman! We’re jokingly calling it the Lynn & Lynne show. 🙂 I’ve been busy creating new work with a focus on wood, stone & metal. It’s more sculptural than some of my previous work and I’ve been having a lot of fun exploring the shapes, textures and colors I’ve been using.

From the artists –

Lynne Medsker:
“I was asked recently what I loved as a child. The question brought memories of collecting rocks and other items in an old shoe box when I was young. Some were from treasured trips to local creeks to collect geodes, fossils and river rocks. Others were merely gravel from our driveway that I’d used my Prang watercolor set and painted pretty pastel colors! Special trips to the local rock shop, where I would spend much longer than my parents would have preferred, selecting just the right stone added to my collection. Those happy memories, along with a collection of driftwood, rocks and items that I have collected as an adult (to make something with “someday”) are what inspired this artwork. I hope you enjoy these new creations as much as I have enjoyed creating them!”

Lynn Andalman:
“After my trip to South Africa and surrounding areas, color and content seems to be bursting at the seams. There doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to complete what I have to give to the canvas. Looking forward to sharing all things new & wonderful!”

We’ll have some delicious treats and libations to celebrate the show during the Private Opening, Friday, November 7th, 2014 from 6 – 9 p.m. If you can’t make it then be sure to attend the Public Opening/Monthly Gallery Walk, Saturday, November 8th, 2014 from 5 – 9 p.m. Of course you can always visit during normal gallery hours as well.  ArtSplash is located at 111 W. Main Street, Suite #140, Carmel, IN 46032.

Something fishy

Back in the fall, during my unintentional blog hiatus, I created several new pieces of whimsical art using scrap wood pieces, old dictionary pages and ink. They were fun! I have ideas for more pieces in this style once I get back into the studio. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite pieces from the batch I created.  It began with one of these pieces of wood, the backgrounds painted with acrylic:

Add some torn paper shapes:

Then lots of ink details and DONE!

Just for fun I left some of the paper un-attached to the surface to make the pieces more dimensional, in this instance the fin on his side!

P.S. If you’d like to see this, and other creations, in person they are located at ProArt Gallery in Greenwood, Indiana!

Diane – “Diane creatively expresses her love of the natural world through her photographs. Whether she is exploring the backroads of Ireland or Indiana, she uses her photographic skills and creativity to produce images that reflect her contemplative view of landscapes, animals and people. While she appreciates the many benefits of digital photography, Diane strives to capture the image she envisions with her camera, using minimal digital editing.”

Lynne – “Creating art is the purpose of my life. It keeps my life in balance, letting me escape the tensions of the everyday world. No matter what method I am using, when I create I feel alive! My subject matter begins as images of nature but is transformed into the abstract. The final result is often highly detailed and layered in appearance. As I gain experience, not only artistically but in life as well, my artwork continues to evolve. It has become more complex, with more texture, detail and dimension. I challenge viewers to not only enjoy the imagery of my artwork but to find evidence of things hidden within, waiting to be discovered.”
