Sending some love…

So I’ve been playing with several things in the studio lately, today it only seems natural to share some “heart art” with you! I am slowly working my way back to creating more batik artwork. I took a break for several months but know I’ll be wanting new work for an upcoming show so I started playing with it again yesterday. Instead of creating on plain white paper this time I am using colored paper or paper with natural elements embedded in it. I also decided not to draw out and color in the designs with ink first but to preserve some of the paper color by painting the design on with wax instead. This was my second attempt at a heart, I stressed the paper out too much with the first one and it crumbled into pieces after the second waxing. Ooops!

I did go in after it dried and add some marks and lines. I like how loose and easy-going it ended up!

While I was in the studio I played with a new heart stencil (plus a couple others) in one of my journals…along with some “blendable” inks. It turned out cute enough for my first attempt.

I like it but…well, I just couldn’t help but do some digital editing on it. I know there are a lot of people out there that don’t necessarily enjoy Valentine’s Day. I don’t have strong feelings about it either way, I try to let the people that I love know they are loved all year round so I don’t get very extravagant celebrating just one day! Anyhow, the more I played with the image in Photoshop it morphed into a “dark” version…just for those that aren’t into the happy pink & red hearts or sentiments.

Enjoy the day…however you celebrate (or don’t). With love,

Your Randomly Creative Friend,

Lynne

P.S. If you are out & about and happen to be in the area, the RED show opens tonight at Flourish Gallery, 88 Morgan Street, Martinsville, Indiana. I have art in the RED show and a selection of items for sale in the gallery too. I’ll be there from 2 p.m. till around 7 p.m.

Recap: My first “Live” sale online!

Shortly before Christmas I decided to try my very first “live” sale online at Facebook. I gathered up giftable items (including a large amount of the newly created jewelry), classes and other items I thought people would be interested in. Then I created individual posts for each and started promoting the event. Here’s a look at the flyer I made to generate interest:

I also created promo posts leading up to the event with the “Top 12” reasons to shop the online sale memes – some heartfelt, some funny and all true – and used them across Instagram, FB, Twitter, etc. I also added incentive for people to share the event – the more people, the more purchases and the bigger the discounts! Starting at 10% off all the listings I added an additional 1% for each sale, with a cap at 50% off. Below are the details of how an online “live” event can be set up on Facebook, if you’re wondering how it works.

The prep was actually more time consuming than any other aspect, making sure I had good images and accurate descriptions for each thing. I also designed trivia posts with prizes to keep it fun and interesting. Overachiever that I am, I had 45 posts to get online in one hour. Next time I’d aim for around 30, it was so fast and crazy trying to get all of that on the event page in just an hour! I didn’t feel like I had time to go back and reply to those who had purchased items or answered the trivia questions and I ended up running past the 9 p.m. end time by about 10 minutes. Since it was a holiday sale, this is a sample of one of the trivia questions:

Here are sample posts of items that were sold during the event:

In all I sold 38 items, meaning each person who made a purchase earned a 48% discount! Happy holidays to all of us. 😉 The bonus part of all this work is that I was able to use the image/descriptions of the unsold items to list them on my website – something that was already on my to-do list.

I am planning on doing another one of these online sales, what do you think would be a good time? I’m leaning toward late April/early May thinking people will be on the lookout for Mother’s Day and Graduation Gifts. Once I get that figured out I’ll be sure and share the details here on the blog.

Blessings,

Lynne

Final Art Auction Items up for grabs!

Instead of just giving you a preview this evening I’m letting you know that the last of the new items have been added and are available for bid during the last 24 hours of the fundraising art auction! With many people traveling for the Easter weekend it gives you a bit longer to get your bids in before you leave and, I won’t have to worry about getting it online and active in the morning either. 🙂

A few of the new items were featured in advertising, so if you’ve been looking for them here they are! Additionally there is a class for two, a class for TWELVE and a portrait photo shoot up for bid.

Now, a request. The last few days the bids have been dwindling. I know you are probably getting tired of reading and hearing about it but I really, really need your help in sharing this info so we can raise as much money as possible these last 24 hours! It doesn’t take long to click “share”, write a quick e-mail or tweet about it so help as much as you can. Thank you~

Lynne

P.S. If you hadn’t heard yet we received a $200 donation to be applied to this lovely piece of art (that was generously donated by artist Doug Arnholter) – making this an even better opportunity for you to own this piece of art!

Thursday Auction Preview

Yup, it’s still going on! I hope you’ve visited the auction site to learn why I’m raising money – and to place a bid or two!

As it turns out I did find one more “theme” for the daily auction items. Thursday’s items will all be related to printmaking, gelatin prints specifically. I love to create these fun piece, they are full of surprises and happy accidents. In addition to a class for two to learn this fun art form I’ve also got some matted, ready to frame pieces up for auction that are new…they’ve not been on my website, page or blog before.  Consider this not just their debut but your chance to get them at a great price too. 🙂
