We had a lot of fun with flowing materials, flowers and music! I really enjoyed doing something different with my portrait work, I love being challenged and coming up with different ideas and images. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of them too!

More Underwater Fun!

Last week I posted some images from a test run while I was trying my hand at underwater photography. Today I am going to share some of the images taken during the photo shoot I was preparing for.

I must say this was harder than I thought – for both of us. Being buoyant has it’s disadvantages when you want to take photos UNDER the water.

We spent a few fun hours in and around the pool and both relaxed enough that by the end we were very comfortable with what we were doing. Which, if you hadn’t guessed yet, were pregnant belly pictures. 🙂

These are some of the ones taken under the water, I’ve got another post of the ones taken around the pool area above water.  Check back for those images tomorrow!

Underwater Practice Photos

So, last month I decided to take on the challenge of doing some underwater portraits (that post will be coming soon). I couldn’t resist the idea of combining two of my favorite things – being in the water & taking photos.

What I couldn’t make myself do was take my big DSLR cameras under the water, no matter how safe & secure the housings they sell were supposed to be! So I compromised and got a housing for my point & shoot camera, thinking I could live with the idea (and expense) of having to replace a nice point & shoot if things went terribly wrong! Although I struggled with the housing, learning eventually that, yes, there is a front and back and, yes, it does matter which direction you put them together. It became much simpler after that discovery! My “‘test run” photo session was in the pool with my grandson as my model.  You’ll notice that it’s mostly arms, legs and life vest – he’s not one for being underwater just yet. I did capture this image of the one (and only) time he jumped into the pool and went all the way under the water. After messing around with photos under the water I began to play with photos looking up out of the water. Although I’m not sure what this first one is, it’s rather a cool abstract, anyhow. These are two fun pics I got of my grandson out of the pool and me under the water.

That was kind of a fun experiement, the hardest part is staying under the water while trying to compose & shoot! Although still not complete comfortable I felt like I could tackle the underwater portraits. I at least had confidence that the housing wouldn’t leak and ruin my camera! You’ll have to wait until next week to see the portraits. 🙂

Sneak Peek and Special Offers

If you haven’t had a chance to visit my solo show,”Art with Lots of TLC” (Texture, Layers & Color) at the Plainfield Public Library in Plainfield, Indiana, here’s a little peek at part of the art on display. The artwork lines the second floor of the library, this image is of a small section to the right of the stairs as you assend them. Although I’ve had these three pieces for several months I have never had them in the same place at the same time. Together they made a great display! The framed pieces, “Non-Identical Twins #1 and #2″ are mixed media on illustration board, each 20×15”, priced at $295 (or $495 for the pair). The wall sculpture “Commetiri” is a combination of wood, paint, aluminum & found objects, measures 14×11 and is $175. You’ll find larger images of all of these works on the website!

This show continues through March 13th, 2011 during normal library hours so you’ve got almost two full weeks to go see all the art in person, displayed in this wonderful gallery.
