New Work! November at ArtSplash Gallery

I’m excited to be sharing the main gallery space at ArtSplash Gallery in Carmel, Indiana, during the month of November with the talented Lynn Andalman! We’re jokingly calling it the Lynn & Lynne show. 🙂 I’ve been busy creating new work with a focus on wood, stone & metal. It’s more sculptural than some of my previous work and I’ve been having a lot of fun exploring the shapes, textures and colors I’ve been using.

From the artists –

Lynne Medsker:
“I was asked recently what I loved as a child. The question brought memories of collecting rocks and other items in an old shoe box when I was young. Some were from treasured trips to local creeks to collect geodes, fossils and river rocks. Others were merely gravel from our driveway that I’d used my Prang watercolor set and painted pretty pastel colors! Special trips to the local rock shop, where I would spend much longer than my parents would have preferred, selecting just the right stone added to my collection. Those happy memories, along with a collection of driftwood, rocks and items that I have collected as an adult (to make something with “someday”) are what inspired this artwork. I hope you enjoy these new creations as much as I have enjoyed creating them!”

Lynn Andalman:
“After my trip to South Africa and surrounding areas, color and content seems to be bursting at the seams. There doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to complete what I have to give to the canvas. Looking forward to sharing all things new & wonderful!”

We’ll have some delicious treats and libations to celebrate the show during the Private Opening, Friday, November 7th, 2014 from 6 – 9 p.m. If you can’t make it then be sure to attend the Public Opening/Monthly Gallery Walk, Saturday, November 8th, 2014 from 5 – 9 p.m. Of course you can always visit during normal gallery hours as well.  ArtSplash is located at 111 W. Main Street, Suite #140, Carmel, IN 46032.

Solo Art Show “RE: IMAGINED, CREATED, PURPOSED”

LOOK! My postcards arrived yesterday!

I am also busy creating upcycled envelopes and invitations to the private opening of this upcoming show! If you will be in the Indianapolis area on June 1st and would like to be invited to the private opening please send an email with your mailing address to info@lynnemedsker.com and I would be honored to send you an invitation.

I’ve been busy the past several months exploring different media and materials, especially things that are often discarded. Magazines, newspapers, scrap metal, styrofoam, plastic lids, old books, aluminum cans, used albums & CD’s, wood scraps, packing materials and have even found a few objects that I am not even sure what they were used for! It’s been an interesting journey but now I am narrowing my focus to a handful of those materials and producing new work especially for this show. I will continue to share peeks at the process over the next month. It has really opened my eyes to all the possible materials and genres that can be created by re-imagining and re-purposed items. I’ve even re-created some of my own artwork into something new & different!

I do hope you’ll be able to attend the show at some point during the month of June…I am really excited to share my journey with you.

Blessings,

Lynne

Art Into Poetry

One of the cool things that is happening with the “intricate Elements” show?

"Intricate Elements" at Ivy Tech John Waldron Art Center, April 2012

My images were included in this project!

Because you are our April artists, your art will be featured in this year’s “Art Into Poetry” project. The project is a partnership between Ivy Tech students enrolled in Introduction to Poetry classes, and the members of the Ellettsville and Crestmont Boys and Girls Clubs.

Each year, students teach members of the Boys and Girls Clubs how to respond to visual art from the Waldron galleries through poetry. The best poems written for each piece of art used will be displayed in the gallery underneath that piece of art.

They’ve event published a book with the art images & poetry in it! So this evening I’ll be attending this event –

Please save the date for our Art into Poetry 2012 Reception Event where we will honor all the Boys & Girls Club Members and John Waldron Arts Center Artists who participated in our project:

Intricate Elements meet Lithomorphs

I posted earlier this month about the upcoming “Intricate Elements” show that I will be having in Bloomington, Indiana during the month of April.  There are so many things going on with/during this show – not the least of which is that I’ll be sharing the gallery space with sculptor Martin Beach! While my digital art will surround you on the walls of the gallery space, Martin’s amazing sculptures will be interwoven through the gallery space as well.

These images of his amazing work are just a small sampling of what he has created. I feel honored to be sharing or artwork at the same venue! In addition to our art there will also be poetry and wine, each paired with certain pieces of art during the opening. I can’t wait!

I hope you will join me for the evening of April 6th, it’s going to be fantastic!

Blueberry View Artist Retreat

I had a wonderful experience staying at the Blueberry View Artist Retreat in Riverside, Michigan the past two weeks! I posted a few images and information about my visit while I was there but, since I purposely “unplugged” and didn’t bring a computer, posting from my cell phone made it a challenge. And, honestly, I was too busy making art to spend a lot of my time writing blog posts about it! The next several posts will be about my stay and the art that was created during that time – 20 new pieces in all! The smallest is assembled on a 4×4″ canvas, the largest on a 36×48″ canvas. Today I am sharing with you some images I took of the artwork hung on the studio walls prior to the reception on Thursday, July 14th.

In addition to these images I wanted to share with you an article, written by Terri Gordon, about Blueberry View: Click here to Read! The rest of the posts will focus more on individual pieces and the steps taken to create them, be looking for the first one in a day or two!
