The Lounge Series

Late last year I was invited to give the first presentation for the 2019 season of “The Lounge Series” in Jasper, Indiana! How could I refuse when it’s one of my favorite topics – mandalas! I’m underway with preparing slides and images to share the history of this amazing art form, after which we will all create our own mandala artwork. All the details about the event are shown in the flyer below, if you live in the area it would be amazing to meet you!

Creatively yours,

Lynne

New in the Studio this week

I’ve had the pleasure of being able to spend a few days in the studio this week! As of yesterday I completed five “in progress” batik pieces that I have been working on for the last few weeks and also completed painting 12 stones that will be incorporated into new mixed media art pieces for an upcoming show. Here is an image of one series of stones as they progressed throughout the day:

A different set:email, technicolor rocks

If you are interested in creating some painted rocks, or just playing in the paints I’ll be having open studio play dates next week! The cost is only $10 for a 2-3 hour session and this month all the fees are going to be donated to HDSA. You can read the details in THIS POST.

Here is one of the batik pieces, almost finished:14199230_10153737866222233_6978260181664794374_n

I tried my first stop-action film while working on the finishing details on this piece but it turned out slightly blurry and a bit too fast. It was a good learning experience none the less. My second attempt was in focus but my camera battery died mid-recording. Now I’m out of works in progress to film! I’ll get it done eventually though, it’s one of those things I’ve wanted to do/learn. There are so many!

Now I’m off for a few more hours in the studio…I wonder what will be created today!

A peek into a fun project!

I’m not quite sure how I forgot to share this news on the blog but just realized I hadn’t said a word about it here! Well, here it is. I’m working on a coloring book that will be part of Dover Publications “Creative Haven” series!!

I’ve been busy creating around 30 images to be included in the book. Here are a few progress images from the last couple of weeks:

I am hoping to have them all submitted in the next week or so, the book should be published this fall sometime. I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s coming out! One of the gallery spaces I work with is talking about hosting a show of the original works as well as a book signing. Fun stuff! In the meantime I’m busy each day dreaming and drawing new images. My compass has been getting a good workout and my markers even more so!10922457_10152572102297233_2582858822183004008_n

Ready to Advance?

Somehow that title sounds like a shmoozy late-night commercial blurb, doesn’t it? I don’t know if that will draw you in or scare you away! I just thought “Ready to Advance your Mandala Creating Skills? New Workshop Next Week!” wouldn’t fit well in the title bar area very well. That being said….

Well, are you? Ready to advance those creative mandala skills? Hmmm?

Next Wednesday evening, August 21st from 6 to 9 p.m. at Art Lab Indy I’ll be presenting “Mandala Art II” (such a creative class name, no?).  If you’ve got the basics of creating a mandala in a square/circle format and are ready to break out of that boxy world then this is for YOU. We’ll explore creating mandalas off-center, in multiples and also be using a new background (watercolor paper) and (surprise!) watercolors, too.

This will be my last class for a while as time for our move approaches, if you miss this one you’ve got a couple months to wait before I’ll be teaching again. Maybe just don’t miss it, how’s that sound? Contact Art Lab Indy to register for class, cost is $35. As always all supplies are provided so just bring yourself & a playful attitude. See you then!

P.S. If you missed the Intro to Mandala Class and are a self-starter, here are instructions on the basics so you’ll be caught up for this class:  Making A Mandala

Dream Each Day

I finished this piece a few weeks ago, now it’s time to share some of the images during the process.

I’ve been working on these 12×12″ wood panels that are first covered with old book pages. I like the text as a background! For this particular piece I decided to draw directly on the surface. Here are the progress images:

The title came from a saying that I included in the image….can you find it?

Recent Mandala Class Creations

As much fun as I have showing people how to create Mandalas, I enjoy showing off their creations even more. Each one is so unique and fits the person, in that moment, perfectly!

These are from the class at Finer Things earlier this month, everyone did just a wonderful job!
